LARC Launches #HeatSafeLA Campaign to Raise Extreme Heat Awareness

As summer temperatures rise, the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC), in partnership with the LA County Department of Public Health, is launching the fourth year of its extreme heat awareness campaign, #HeatSafeLA, to help Angelenos stay safe during extreme heat.

“Extreme heat is the deadliest weather-related event in the U.S., and it’s only getting hotter,” said Erin Coutts, Executive Director of LARC. “Our social media campaign raises awareness of the urgency of extreme heat and equips individuals with practical heat safety strategies that they can share with their communities.

From May to October, the #HeatSafeLA campaign will be featured across Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and BlueSky, spotlighting content on heat safety education.

Campaign highlights include:

  • Shareable graphics and a social media toolkit spotlighting heat safety strategies and vulnerable groups on staying cool and safe
  • Short videos featuring local content creators and community organizations
  • A social media challenge using the hashtag #HeatSafeLA and tagging @laregionalcollaborative

All campaign materials are free and open to the public. LARC invites residents, community partners, and media outlets to share the message and help spread awareness about heat safety.
