Ixchal Gonzalez-Trujil

Ixchal Gonzalez is an undergraduate student at Santa Monica College double majoring in Geology and Marine Biology. She is interested in studying biogenic calcification in the photic zone as well as marine sediments. Through the Santa Monica College-UCLA Summer Research Scholars program she will begin research at UCLA in summer 2017.

Ernest Gomis

Ernest is a fourth year geology major with interests in climate change and in planetary science. He is from Dakar, Senegal, and has a brother who is also attending UCLA. He hopes contribute to scientific knowledge and discovery, as well as increase science interest in minority communities.

Nicholas Petruzzelli

Undergraduate student at Temple University who is interested in studying climate change. Summer lab assistant at UCLA.

Ella Bushnell

Ella is an environmental studies major at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota with an emphasis in climate science and geology. Her research in the Tripati Lab focused on examining modern and ancient lake systems. She is passionate about organic farming and sustainable agriculture and is interested in how climate change will affect farming globally. She hopes to continue her studies in graduate school and return to Tanzania where she has started an independent research project on water chemistry in the national parks.

Chris Bentley

Chris is a journalist who was a fellow and lab assistant in the Tripati lab during the summer of 2010, where he helped prepare and analyze foraminifera samples to study climate change.

He has a bachelors degree in natural resources from Cornell University and a masters degree in journalism from Northwestern University. You can follow his work on climate change, clean energy and other issues on twitter on @Cementley and on his website cabentley.com

Marcus Enriquez

Marcus Enriquez graduated with a B.S in Geology from CSULA. He was a part of the Tripati Lab Group from 2010-2013 assisting  with research in the areas of Geobiology and Paleoclimatology. He currently works for the City of Commerce, Department of Parks and Recreation. He loves to collect all knowledge and is an aspiring pianist!

Alexandra Valencia Villa

Alex is a 3rd year graduate student in the department of Geoscience at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. She graduated from UCLA with her B.S. in Geology in 2018, and worked in Dr. Tripati’s lab during her undergraduate studies. She worked on multiple projects and lead a team of other undergraduates to investigate the carbon cycle in the North Pacific in order to understand how it responds to changing climate and ocean stratification. Her experiences in the Tripati Lab led her to continue her research experience at the University of Cambridge, where she studied samples from interstitial waters for trace metals and boron. Most recently she attained her MS on a project using clumped isotope paleothermometry and planktic foraminifera to reconstruct the Last Glacial Maximum to present in the Cariaco Basin. In her free time, she invests her energy in diversity, equity, and inclusion work in her department and in collaboration with peers at various institutions. Alex enjoys finding new recipes to cook and playing with her dog Miel. She aspires to be a professor or project scientist and will continue to be involved in opportunities that diversify science and support minorities in STEM.

Audrey Brown

Audrey Mei Yi Brown recently graduated from UCLA with a major in Geography where she did research in the Tripati Lab. Her research explores environmental justice and food justice in Los Angeles and the narratives that tell the stories of these issues. She is currently pursuing work in environmental journalism. Audrey enjoys hiking, writing and gardening.

Yan Zeng

Zeng Yan is an associate professor of the Institute of Geochemistry at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Yan completed her B.S. at Northwest University and her Ph.D. at the Institute of Geochemistry, CAS. One part of her research aims to develop tools for studying climate change impacts on temperature and precipitation in the past. She also studies Carbon-Nitrogen-Phosphorus cycling in lakes and reservoirs.

Drew Henry

Drew was an undergraduate student at UCLA where he did research in the Tripati Lab. He graduated in 2014 with a degree in chemistry and is a graduate student at USC currently studying the electronic structure of condensed matter many body systems.
