Critically endangered frog species found by FCAT in the Bilsa Biological Reserve (Equador).

The Fundacion para la Conservacion de los Andes Tropicales (FCAT) Reserve in Esmeraldas Province (northwest Ecuador) was established with the participation of local residents and scientists committed to the conservation of biodiversity in the Tropical Andes region.

FCAT researchers have recently found a new population of the Bilsa white-chested frog (Leucosthethus bilsa) in forest transects near the FCAT station. The discovery of this new population of the Bilsa white-chested frog raises the total of known critically endangered or endangered species within the FCAT reserve to seven.
