Daniel Swain for New York Times—Park Fire in Northern California Spreads to 360,000 Acres
UCLA climate scientist Daniel Swain spoke with the New York Times about the prolonged nature of the Park fire in Northern California. Swain noted the fire’s rapid growth, with officials estimating it was expanding by up to 5,000 acres per hour. He emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “This fire will likely be burning for weeks, if not months,” and adding that it might rank among the largest fires in California’s history. Swain underscored the difficulty in containing the fire soon, given the forecasted prolonged heat wave affecting the fire zone.
