UCLA students help Pacific island economies grow sustainably
UCLA graduate students help developing islands capitalize on ocean resources.
Research Project | 2018
Islands often lack a capable workforce. Their small populations and sparse educational training opportunities make it hard to address workforce limitations. This project will conduct a critical evaluation of workforce in islands, with a particular focus on jobs or industries that support the blue economy including fisheries, aquaculture, and tourism. It will identify scarcity of capacity in these fields, and then make recommendations on how investments, including technical training programs, might be used to redress capacity shortfalls.
