Travis Longcore on Spectrum News on LED Lights Contribution to Light Pollution and Environmental Impact

Professor Travis Longcore joined “Inside the Issues with Alex Cohen” on Spectrum News (34:52) to discuss the pros and cons of LED lighting.  LEDs frequently emit blue light, which disperses more in the environment and adds to outdoor light pollution. Not only are circadian systems in humans and many other creatures highly affected by this, but the light is able to traverse further than warmer-toned lights.  About half of organisms are nocturnal, but also animals who have activities that extend into the night are also affected like birds who fly into lit windows.
