Michael Chester

Prior to Anderson, Michael spent six years in risk management where he helped private equity funds and financial services firms improve their investment due diligence and operational efficiency. This work allowed him to travel extensively and assist clients throughout multiple countries including India, Brazil, and South Africa. This summer, he worked in corporate development for Liberty Mutual.

Throughout his career, Michael has developed a strong interest in social impact and has continued to take on opportunities to advance this cause while at Anderson. This past year, he took part in the Net Impact Case Competition working with a team supporting the UCLA Stein Eye Center. They were awarded 1st place in the competition after developing a strategy for the UCLA Mobile Eye Clinic to enhance its efforts in aiding underprivileged children throughout Los Angeles. Outside of the classroom, Michael enjoys a variety of sports, including basketball, football, and golf. He is also an amateur screenwriter and stand-up comedian.

David Wu

Prior to Anderson, David worked as an engineer for five years in Canada at PetroChina, a multinational oil & gas company. As part of the company’s leadership development program, David built extensive experience in project management, driving operational effectiveness and identifying growth strategies. He has successfully spearheaded multiple cross-functional projects, identifying solutions that addressed technical challenges and project economics. He also thrived in a cross-cultural corporate environment, bridging the gap between Chinese leadership and North American project teams to execute effectively on multi-billion dollar initiatives.

On campus, David channels his time into further studying the nuances of international business, with a focus on the developments occurring in China and its role in the global economy. As the VP of Alumni Relations for both Greater China Business Association and Asian Management Student Association, David spends much of his time engaging with Anderson’s active alumni base to get first hand insights for numerous sectors on both sides of the Pacific.

This summer, David will be interning at Danaher (a globally diversified conglomerate) as part of their General Management Development Program. In his spare time, he enjoys working out, reading novels and planning his next international backpacking trip.

Paul Von

Prior to UCLA Anderson, Paul spent six years working in corporate banking, most recently within BNP Paribas’ High Technology coverage team as an Associate. In this role, he was responsible for publishing internal research on his portfolio of companies and achieving senior executive buy-in for client financings. Interested in making a social impact at work, Paul established a donation program at BNP benefitting the homeless population in San Francisco, ultimately contributing over 150 hygiene kits.

At Anderson, Paul is the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Operations for the Asian Management Student Association, as well as an Anderson Career Teams Coach focused on technology marketing. In the past year, he participated in Net Impact’s Project ECHO MBA mentorship program, where his team pitched a minority-led music label start-up for underprivileged youth within the Los Angeles area.

This summer, Paul interned at VMware, a technology company that specializes in enterprise software, as a product marketer. In his spare time, Paul enjoys traveling internationally to discover new exotic cuisines, rooting for Liverpool FC in the English Premier League, and crafting pour-over coffee concoctions.

Andrew Su

Andrew started his career as a consulting actuary, providing liability valuation services for both defined benefit pension schemes and employer sponsored healthcare benefits. In his most recent role at DaVita, an international Fortune 200 healthcare provider, Andrew led a cross-functional team that provided analytical decision support to senior management on initiatives related to clinical operations, strategic acquisitions, and organic expansion. He also has garnered significant experience working in Latin American healthcare markets by working on implementing numerous cross-border initiatives.

On campus, Andrew has been heavily involved with Anderson’s student body philanthropic efforts by serving as Director of Sponsorships for UCLA’s Challenge for Charity (C4C) organization. He has also engaged with many prospective students in helping them make informed decisions on further pursuing their graduate studies.

This summer, Andrew interned at PwC within their Health Industries Advisory practice. In his spare time, he enjoys perfecting his surfing technique and planning his next long haul rail trip.

Scott Rong

Before Anderson, Scott worked for three years as a pre-sales technical consultant at Oracle, specializing in customer relationship management (CRM), digital marketing, and eCommerce technologies. In this role, he helped organizations create meaningful customer experiences through cutting-edge cloud solutions. Over the summer, Scott interned at VMware as a Product Marketing Manager.

Throughout his educational and professional career, Scott has been interested in nonprofit work. In college, Scott was an active volunteer for the National Marrow Donor Program and Habitat for Humanity. At Anderson, Scott serves as a mentor for the Riordan Scholars program. Scott grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. In his free time, he enjoys traveling the world with his wife, cheering on Duke Basketball, and DJ-ing.

Shannon Coyne

Shannon started her career at Forrester Research, helping Fortune 500 companies to evaluate the best technology solution to meet their business needs by developing syndicated research reports and consulting deliverables. She also improved the company’s main product, the Forrester Wave, by designing and implementing a customized training program for the company’s employees to ensure research was conducted objectively and fairly across all participants.

Shannon also has experience with nonprofit and mission-driven organizations, having worked at UNESCO in the Republic of Korea, the Wellesley Centers for Women, and – immediately before Anderson – Harvard Business School. In her role at HBS, Shannon provided School leadership with the data insights necessary to back their decision-making, in topics ranging across the complete faculty career lifecycle, including faculty recruitment strategies, retention, research support, the tenure review process, and compensation and rewards decisions. She was also business lead in developing the new faculty information system, a resource of key strategic importance to the School.

This summer, Shannon joined Deloitte Consulting as a Summer Associate in the Human Capital practice. In her spare time, she enjoys swimming, traveling, and watching eSports tournaments.

Joscha Beninde

Joscha is a Assistant Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, working under the umbrella of Evolutionary Adaptations in the Anthropocene with an emphasis on Landscape Genetics: Effects of spatial heterogeneity in landscape on adaptation. As a La Kretz Center Postdoctoral Fellow, Joscha’s research involved using landscape genetics to understand how species survive and thrive in urban environments. He worked on a collaborative project with the Sustainable LA Grand Challenge to map the genetic diversity of 15 species of plants, butterflies and vertebrates inhabiting the LA Basin.

Tanner Waters

Tanner Waters (he/him) is a Ph.D. alum in the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability at UCLA. His graduate research focuses on using the emerging technique of environmental DNA metabarcoding to assess the impact of coastal restoration and conservation efforts. This work includes partnering with local NGOs to create rich, collaborative research. Specifically, he works with ‘The Bay Foundation’ investigating the impacts of seagrass restorations on localized biodiversity and with ‘Heal the Bay’ to assess the impact of Los Angeles’ Marine Protected Areas on fish richness and abundance. Tanner also works with UCLA’s CDLS. As a gay, first generation college student he understands the importance of making science and academia a place that is diverse and inclusive of various backgrounds and identities. He is the co-founder of the center’s ‘Inclusive Sustainability Collective’, a group dedicated

 

Tanner received a B.S. in Environmental Science, an A.B. in Earth and Ocean Science and a minor in Biology from Duke University. He previously worked for the Superfund where he researched the impacts of arsenite toxicity on mitochondrially mutated C. elegans. Tanner is also a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow, Swtizer Foundation Fellow, Eugene V. Cota-Robles Fellow, Southwest Climate Adaptation Science Center Fellow, and Center for Diverse Leadership in Science fellow.

Yvonne Yock

Yvonne Yock will be working with Prof. Delmas and Dr. Zhu to understand the mechanisms that can encourage sustainable behaviors by integrating knowledge in Psychology, Behavioral Economics and Public Health. Yvonne’s past work experiences include stints in National Healthcare Group (NHG), Singapore and National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore. She was a research analyst at NHG where she worked with the various residency programs to improve the medical education training of residents and a research associate at NIE where she was part of a team involved in a quantitative study of learning and teaching in Singapore classrooms.

William Krantz

Will is a PhD student in UCLA’s Environment and Sustainability Program researching regional climate risks at the intersection of climate modeling and policy. His work brings a focus on climate variability and global teleconnections to inform adaptation planning and exploring the risks of emerging climate intervention technologies. Before coming to UCLA, Will has worked designing a fleet of earth observation satellites, researched nuclear policy and non-proliferation technology, and built detectors for an experimental cosmology telescope. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of California, Berkeley.
