Julia Navarro
Prior to Anderson, Julia worked for the Federal Government in various capacities. She began her career in the U.S. Department of State where she negotiated agreements and managed the logistics for safeguarding national security information, while balancing the public’s right for access. After that, Julia moved to the White House’s National Security Council where she supported a wide range of homeland security policies, including those on global health issues, climate-induced natural disasters, and unaccompanied immigrant minors. Throughout her career, Julia has focused on faithfully serving the public while supporting and advancing policy efforts in national security and government transparency.
While at Anderson, Julia is focused on supplementing her policy experience with business strategy and operations principles to amplify her continuing impact. Julia currently serves as VP of Operations for the Women’s Business Connection, VP of Alumni for the Anderson Latino Management Association, and VP of Admissions for the Strategy & Operations Management Association.
Julia spent the summer at Bank of America, Merrill Lynch on the Strategic Growth Markets Acquisition team. She led the development and execution of the strategy to acquire and better serve underrepresented segments. She also used this time to explore the historic sites of New York City and taste every bagel spread available.
Chloe Kim
Chloe started her career as a project engineer for global gas plant projects at Samsung Engineering. After five years in the gas sector, Chloe moved on to non-profit with the aim to work in the renewable energy field. As an internal consultant at Greenpeace East Asia, her focus was on energy market and regulatory research to stimulate growth of renewable energy in Korea. She also designed research projects focusing on global ocean sustainability, such as plastic pollution and sustainable fishing.
Chloe joined UCLA Anderson with a plan to move back into the private sector with an organization that enables sustainable energy solutions with new technology and business models. She joined Tesla for her summer internship, working in global supply management for the power distribution team.
At Anderson, Chloe is actively leading a group to improve sustainability at Anderson and is in the process of institutionalizing an official student government role to oversee and promote sustainability within the school. She serves as EVP of the Energy Management Group where she leads the club and engages with industry networks. She is also VP of Admissions for the Korean Business Student Association. In her free time, Chloe loves to surf, swim, and play tennis. Curious in nature, Chloe never stops exploring.
Logan Van Meter
After earning her M.A. in Medicine, Health, and Society from Vanderbilt University, Logan began her career at Huron Consulting Group, managing project teams and identifying inefficiencies and improvement initiatives at hospitals to help leadership reduce cost of care. From there, Logan moved into corporate wellness technology at Limeade, where she managed customer programs, before building out Limeade’s partnership program and operations to facilitate efficiency and build relationships. Throughout her career, Logan has focused on utilizing business for good, striving to enhance organizations’ purpose and mission.
Logan serves as the Vice President of Impact@Anderson Relations for Anderson’s Net Impact chapter, serving as a liaison between the program and club to ensure student voices are heard in the development of I@A’s continuing programming and strategy. Additionally, Logan holds the roles of Co-President of the Anderson Wine Club and VP of Admissions for the Retail Business Association.
This summer, Logan combined her passion for social impact with her skills in operations and strategy at Dry Farm Wines, the only health-focused, sustainably-grown, natural wine club in the world. Logan worked towards developing a new sourcing and inventory management system, in addition to creating processes to implement new technology that provides customers with information about the wines they receive. When she’s not working, Logan enjoys hiking, cooking elaborate meals, and strategizing Settlers of Catan.
Claudia Sanchez
Claudia is a San Francisco native with an extensive professional background in the social impact space. She began her career in education and supported numerous Bay Area non-profits on initiatives including youth and curriculum development, program management, and growth planning. Through the creation and implementation of deliberate, streamlined processes, Claudia was able to improve operational efficiencies that reduced employee turnover, shaped data collection and analysis strategies, and increased overall organizational impact.
In 2015, Claudia shifted her career into the healthcare space as a workforce specialist for Delta Dental. In her role, she managed a number of employee programs and supported company-wide goals such as talent development, change management, and program design.
While at Anderson, Claudia is focused on leveraging her past professional experiences to support organizations in developing operational strategies that balance high growth outcomes with proper employee management and engagement. This summer she joined Amazon as an Operations Manager in their Pathways Leadership Development Program.
Claudia also serves as VP of Partnerships for the Anderson Latino Management Association and VP of Career Development for Net Impact. In her free time, she enjoys experimenting with DIY projects, FaceTime-ing with her six-year-old niece, and exploring cultural neighborhoods in Los Angeles.
Kevin Popper
Prior to Anderson, Kevin spent five years as a clean technology consultant in China, helping venture-capital level startups, Fortune 500s and The International Finance Corporation leverage data, in-depth market research, and financial modelling to shape their investment and partnership strategies. He led projects covering innovative technology demonstrations, manufacturing joint ventures, renewable energy project acquisitions, and energy efficiency programs in the textile, steel, and cement industries, as well as open innovation. He is the lead author on two public market research reports and has presented his work at major conferences in Asia, Europe, and the U.S.
Professionally, Kevin seeks to accelerate the development of technologies that make daily necessities more economic, accessible, and sustainable. He currently serves as Vice President of Events for Anderson’s Energy Management Club where he collaborates with recent alumni to create events that increase the breadth and depth of Anderson student’s knowledge, enabling them to pursue deeper, more meaningful projects within the clean energy space.
This summer, Kevin pursued an internship within the Innovation, Development and Controls team at Southern California Edison.
Outside of the classroom, Kevin enjoys surfing, snowboarding and diving the kelp forests off the coast of California.
Nicole Samanez
Nicole started her career at workforce development nonprofit Year Up as part of a startup team to launch a new site in San Jose. As the first hire for the site’s Admissions and Outreach team, Nicole established relationships with over 20 community partners in the South Bay, helping Year Up in San Jose become the first startup site to have a full class upon opening.
After Year Up, Nicole joined the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP) to open and lead operations in its first Bay Area elementary school. In its founding year, she became the first Operations Manager to hit enrollment targets, and the school was ranked in the top 5 of 80 KIPP elementary schools in the nation. Nicole later joined the Regional Operations team and created the first strategic planning process to support student recruitment for all Bay Area schools.
This summer, Nicole was a Summer Associate at McKinsey & Company. On campus, Nicole channels her passion for social impact as the Executive Vice President of UCLA Anderson’s Net Impact chapter. She is also serving as an Anderson Career Track coach for first-year Anderson students interested in consulting. In her spare time, Nicole enjoys being outdoors hiking, backpacking, cycling, running, or rock climbing. She’s also an incredible cook (especially of Peruvian cuisine) and enjoys DIY projects (e.g. making candles, lip balm, etc.).
Julie Ortega
Before coming to Anderson, Julie worked as a content marketing writer and editor in Chicago for four years, where she helped financial- and B2B-industry clients position themselves as thought leaders in their spaces via targeted digital and print content. Her work regularly involved interviewing and liaising with C-suite executives and other industry subject-matter experts at companies with revenues of $2 billion and above, as well as collaborating internally with cross-functional teams such as graphic design, video production, and software development.
Julie came to Anderson to pursue social impact full time in a strategic role and was excited to spend the summer as a portfolio growth and performance intern at Save the Children in Washington, D.C. On campus, she serves as the Vice President of Admissions for the Net Impact club; Vice President of Programming for the Women’s Business Connection’s annual women’s summit, Velocity; and Social Impact Career Track Co-Coach, where she supports first-year MBA candidates in their journey to incorporate impact into their careers.
In her free time, Julie is an avid reader (some recent favorites: Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson and Give Work by Leila Janah) and enjoys jogging and watching Netflix documentaries.
Clara Jaques
Prior to Anderson, Clara worked as a healthcare consultant for Strategy&, PwC’s strategy practice. She has a broad range of experience advising leadership teams on strategic planning, large-scale business transformation, and operational effectiveness efforts. Clara was also part of PwC’s Healthcare New Entrants and Innovators team, which focused on supporting non-traditional healthcare clients transform their business models as they looked to enter the healthcare space.
Throughout her career, Clara has taken advantage of opportunities to pursue social impact work. Since 2014, Clara has been an advisory board member for the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller’s Children’s Hospital in Southern California, where she helps organize and implement fundraising efforts and strategic initiatives. In addition, during her time at PwC, Clara tutored elementary school students in Oakland on topics related to financial literacy.
This summer, Clara pursued an internship as an internal consultant for Kaiser Permanente’s Northern California Medical Group. On campus at UCLA, Clara is a member of the Healthcare Business Association’s board, where she owns the planning and execution of the annual Anderson Healthcare Conference. In her spare time, Clara loves to travel, play soccer, and test out new recipes on friends and family.
Denice Gonzalez-Kim
Professionally, Denice Gonzalez-Kim served as a fundraising and development leader for School on Wheels, a nonprofit that works to enhance the K-12 educational opportunities for homeless children—children living in shelters, motels, downtown hotels, group foster homes, cars, or on the streets. She believes that education is an economic imperative for our society and a right of every child.
She has received numerous awards for her dedication to service in the fields of education, poverty alleviation, and diversity improvement. She has received two President’s Service Award Gold Medals from the White House (under the Obama administration). She was also recently featured in Poets & Quants as one of twelve students to watch in the Anderson class of 2019.
At Anderson, Denice is part of the impact investment team, where she sourced and pitched the first impact investment that Anderson will make since its inception. She is also an academic intern at TriLinc Global, a global impact investment firm based in California. This summer she worked in consulting on Mergers and Acquisitions at EY. Denice enjoys running and hiking with her husband and golfing with friends.
