As Administrative Coordinator for the IoES, Susan Holcomb provides administrative and operational support for faculty, researchers and staff at the UCLA campus and the White Mountain Research Center. Prior to joining the IoES, she worked for the UCLA Graduate Division and the UCLA Labor Occupational and Safety Health Program.
Originally from the east coast, Susan has always been engaged by nature – her first volunteer experience was during high school, where she led classes for elementary school students focusing on the ecology of the Saugatuck River. Her subsequent path led her to study art at Sarah Lawrence College, followed by a stint at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. As an artist, she has exhibited widely across the country in both solo and group shows, and her work is included in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Her goal is to assist IoES researchers, faculty and leadership to the greatest extent possible so they can tackle our most pressing environmental problems unencumbered by a plethora of bureaucratic issues. She is inspired on a daily basis by IoES’s strong commitment to achieve positive environmental outcomes, and plans to catalyze her experience here by creating a body of artwork focusing on ecological issues.
When not at UCLA, Susan runs a small non-profit organization that helps Los Angeles County shelter animals (www.friendsofshelteranimals.org), enjoys exploring L.A. galleries and museums, and hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains with her husband Allan.
