Collaboration: How do chaparral shrubs respond to and recover from heat waves?

In collaboration with Ulli Seibt in the Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, La Kretz Postdoc Alex Pivovaroff installed permanent flow-through chambers that measure carbon and water fluxes for native chaparral shrubs at the Stunt Ranch Reserve.  These chambers continuously monitor gas exchange, providing a powerful look into how these species respond to their environment throughout the year.  Check out her American Geophysical Union abstract on responses to heat waves here and her research mentee’s abstract on water use efficiency here.
