Urban ecology meets citizen science: monitoring reptile diversity and measuring landscape genetic connectivity in the Los Angeles area

Awardee: Erin Toffelmier, PhD Student

Department: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

We know that human development has a large impact on wild animals. This is especially true in the Los Angeles region, which is home to one of the most diverse plant and animal communities on Earth. We are specifically studying how some types of reptiles are able to live in urban environments while some are not and how we can help protect species that are negatively impacted by humans.
