Professor Gillespie is a part of the UCLA Department of Geography, is the advisor for the Environmental Student Network, and was the stakeholder for the SAR 2017 Biodiversity Restoration: Giving Sage Hill a Physical, Educational, and Digital Presence Project. He uses the space for two of his courses: People and the Earth’s Ecosystems (Geog 5) and Forest and Ecosystems (Geog 107).

Professor Gillespie takes his Geog 5 students to the site once a year and teaches them about native plant uses and Indigenous people. The students walk through the site and complete a lab for the course. Professor Gillespie played a major role in restoring Sage Hill and his efforts helped keep the site intact.
