Belinda Waymouth brings a creative force and diverse career talents to the IoES communications team. She believes stories about pressing ecological issues should first and foremost be engaging, while also based on in-depth research. It was the reason she went back to school to get a Geography/Environmental Studies degree (magna cum laude)—focusing in physical sciences and resource conservation, here at UCLA.

Armed with the facts Belinda aims to tell compelling stories whether in person or as written content.  She draws on skills from a varied career. Her first job was as a broadcast journalist for Radio New Zealand, she went on to work in print journalism, public relations, and as a photographer. In New Zealand and here in the U.S. she’s also had a career in the entertainment industry in TV, film, theater and voice over.

Though now a Bruin, Belinda’s other higher education includes Santa Monica College, Auckland University of Technology (Journalism) and University of Auckland (Drama).

She’s also a contributor for National Geographic, Huffington Post Green, Planet Experts, and the United Nations University’s OurWorld 2.0. She has worked for Algalita Marine Research Institute and sits on the board of The 5 Gyres Institute—both non-profits dedicated to combating the ocean plastic pollution crisis. Keen surfers, Belinda and her family live five blocks from Santa Monica beach.
