Chase Neisner

Ph.D. student

Institute of the Environment and Sustainability

Chase is an IoES doctoral student interested in multi-species flocks, domestication, and play. He is currently working with Professor Dan Blumstein from IoES to chart a phylogenetic history of mobbing behavior in birds, and with Porfessor Ursula K. Heise from the English Department to think through connections between ecological understanding and our visual imaginations. He is also considering two sites for multi-species ethnographic study: the Evergreen Cemetery in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, home to a consistent yet variable population of urban Coyote and the Sweetwater Rattle Snake Roundup in Sweetwater, Texas, which annually culls thousands of pounds of rattlesnake of the West Texas Plain.
