Energy poverty and community empowerment in the Global South

Sebastián is a Ph.D. Student at the UCLA’s Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. He is interested in energy transition strategies in the Global South and is currently researching how energy policy should be designed to foster community development and peacebuilding at a local level.  

Before joining IoES, he earned a Bachelor of Laws from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Colombia) and a M.Sc. in Applied Economics from Universidad de los Andes (Colombia). He also worked for the Colombian Government, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Global Green Growth Institute, and local consulting firms in the design, implementation, and evaluation of energy and environmental policy.

Sebastián is conducting his doctoral studies as a Fulbright grantee.
