Join a vibrant community of students, faculty, and professionals committed to advancing sustainability through leadership, collaboration, and hands-on experience. As part of the program, you’ll build the skills and networks to lead across disciplines and make a meaningful impact at UCLA, throughout the Los Angeles region, and beyond. Alumni have applied their leadership experience from the program to careers in policy, business, research, and the nonprofit sector.

Become a Leader in Sustainability

By bringing together diverse academic focuses, the program fosters cross-pollination for innovative ideas and solutions. More than 390 students from 24 disciplines have earned a Leaders in Sustainability Graduate Certificate.

Our national award-winning Leaders in Sustainability Graduate Certificate program is free to UCLA graduate students pursuing degrees in any discipline.

What You’ll Do in the Program

As part of the program, students take ENV 277 (the core sustainability course) and choose three sustainability-focused electives. Working closely with peers, faculty, and professionals, they also complete a Leadership Project that demonstrates impact and initiative. The project must address at least two of the three pillars of sustainability—environment, social equity, and economics—and include measurable outcomes. Projects may align with a capstone and should showcase leadership in action.
