Adam Friedman

Adam Friedman is a first-year doctoral student in the Environmental Science and Engineering program hailing from Atlanta, focusing on the intersection of public health and the environment. He earned his B.S. in Environmental Science and Theater Studies from Emory University, and his M.P.H. in Environmental Health from the Rollins School of Public Health. Adam came from the Southeast Region of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, where he primarily worked in the Superfund and Emergency Response Division, with special emphasis on health impacts associated with wildland and chemical fire, vapor intrusion, and climate adaptation. He has developed technical guidance for first responders to lithium-ion battery fires, as well as regional research evaluating climate vulnerability of Superfund sites in the Southeast.

At the same time, Adam also focuses on the intersection of the arts and the environment, with a particular interest in how we can use the arts to be better communicators of science and risk. To this end, he co-founded the Atlanta Green Artist Alliance in 2020 and continues to participate as a theater artist and producer. He is passionate about not only advancing technical research in environmental health, but also improving how we communicate these scientific advancements through narrative.

In his little remaining free time, Adam enjoys hiking, Dungeons & Dragons, and exploring everything his new city has to offer!
