Andrea Conover is a PhD student at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. Drawing on narrative theory, critical cartography, and social-ecological systems (SES) frameworks, her research focuses on perceptions of environmental hazards and disasters, particularly wildfire. At present, she is interested in building on her master’s work on competing discourses in wildfire coverage by examining the ways in which narratives shape communities’ understandings of possible responses to wildfires and how those choices change future fire impacts on human lives and property. Andrea received her M.A. in the Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and her B.A. in English from Scripps College. Outside of academics, Andrea enjoys rock climbing, sailing, and playing board games with friends.
