Christopher Capot

Christopher Capot is a Ph.D. student at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability. His research focuses on applying geospatial approaches, including remote sensing and GIS, to understand environmental processes and improve environmental monitoring and compliance.

Before joining IoES, Christopher worked as an Environmental and GIS Specialist within a global mining company, supporting environmental monitoring, compliance, and geospatial initiatives at both corporate and operational levels across Switzerland, South America, and Africa. Previously, he worked at an environmental consulting firm specializing in environmental compliance in Chile, advising organizations on environmental regulations, assessments, and processes with environmental authorities. Earlier in his career, he worked at an environmental technology startup, applying remote sensing and drone technologies to environmental challenges including anthropogenic marine debris and agricultural production. Across these roles, his work has focused on developing GIS-based solutions, remote sensing and spatial analysis, and integrating environmental monitoring data.

He holds a degree in Renewable Natural Resources Engineering from the University of Chile and is a recipient of the Fulbright and Chilean National Agency for Research and Development scholarships for his doctoral studies in the United States.
