Maryam Renard is an ESE student with a strong passion for environmental policy and protection of human health and groundwater resources. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a Master of Science in Environmental Hydrogeology. Maryam is a licensed Professional Geologist (PG) and Certified Hydrogeologist (CHG) in the State of California.
Professionally, Maryam serves as a Supervisor at the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board, where she oversees the Underground Storage Tank (UST) and Oil & Gas programs. Her work focuses on protecting groundwater resources, addressing environmental contamination, and supporting regulatory programs that safeguard public health and the environment.
In addition to her regulatory responsibilities, Maryam is actively engaged in research on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). She is currently involved in a statewide study investigating PFAS occurrence at UST sites throughout California in collaboration with the California State Water Resources Control Board. Her research interests include PFAS fate and transport, groundwater quality, and the development of science-based environmental policies.
