Dr. Michelle Thompson is a Senior Regulatory Analyst at the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). She works in the Electricity Planning & Policy Branch as the team lead for energy storage. Dr. Thompson is committed to maximizing energy efficiency  and demand response opportunities and ensuring that California’s energy reliability and environment is protected. Dr. Thompson holds a doctorate in Environmental Science & Engineering from UCLA, a master’s in public administration in Environmental Science & Policy from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA), and a bachelor’s degree in marine biology from UCLA.  For her dissertation research she designed an off-grid water purification system with the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS) and National University of Singapore. Over the past five years Michelle has collaborated on water-energy projects with scientists, government agencies, and stakeholders in over 15 different countries.
