Using cooling centers to prevent heat-related illness and death in L.A.

We’re investigating ideal locations in Los Angeles to place new cooling centers, which are designed to protect at-risk populations from heat waves, which are projected to become increasingly common with climate change. Our team uses complex spatial modeling that accounts for roads and walking distance, as well as taking into account various measures of risk, like age and income.
