Steven Fox is a managing partner at Propeller, an early-stage venture firm that invests in and builds companies at the intersection of ocean systems and climate technology. Propeller works in partnership with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution to translate scientific breakthroughs into venture-scale companies addressing the climate crisis.
Steven focuses on company creation and early-stage investing across the ocean-climate ecosystem. His work spans emerging technologies including ocean sensing, maritime decarbonization, climate infrastructure and applied ocean science. He currently serves as a board member or investor in a number of early-stage technology companies, including Vema Hydrogen, Allium Engineering, hum.ai, Nexxa.ai, Indeximate, Orpheus Ocean, Blue Energy, Rewind, Circle Seafoods and Aquatic Labs. He also serves as a board member of the Network of Engaged International Donors and a trustee of the Remmer Family Foundation.
Prior to joining Propeller, Steven was CEO of Impact Global Education, an international experiential education organization composed of ThinkImpact, Winterline, Cross-Cultural Solutions and Thinking Beyond Borders. Earlier in his career, he served as CEO of ThinkImpact, where he led global programs focused on social innovation and entrepreneurship. Steven began his career working across international development and investment initiatives, including roles at SZ Investments in Southern and Central Africa and the Millennium Campus Network. He holds an M.Sc. in political economy of development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and a B.A. in international economics from the University of Richmond.
